Compan £64? - ECR MIR Meo Seay’ I am planning our annual Medical Survey of the exposed Rongelap and Utirik people. We will be doing complete physical examinations including laboratory tests on 200 people, plus thyroid examinations on approximately another 200. Due to the continuing development of thyroid disease (a 2nd malignancy in the Utirik group) we feel the need for more control thyroid data, hence the one day stop at Wotje. Enclosed is the proposed schedule, list of participants, reservation requests and logistical support requirements for Kwajalein. It is possible a Japanese television group of 3 people including a Dr. C. Hayakawa will accompany the team to Utirik and Rongelap. If the Japanese group is not allowed on Bikini we will come directly back to Kwajalein from Rongelap. If we do go to Bikini from Rongelap we will need the army plane to go to Bikini to pick up the team and bring in the radiological survey group. It is expected that Nat Greenhouse and Jan Naider (BNL) will accompany us to Utirik and Rongelap to do environmental monitoring. At the conclusion of the Island examinations we expect to bring four thyroid cancer patients back to Tripler for specialized studies and also to examine the three exposed students living in Hawaii. I will be in touch with you later regarding plans for the Tripler exams. We will be shipping our medical supplies by the end of January.
