571 ia (BLACKFOOT) Project 31,1 - Microbafograph - W. A. Gustafson The purpose of this project was to measure winds in osone layer of the atmosphere. This was accomplished by measuring at several sites the arrival times of the shock wave reflected from the ozone layer, Pour aites were opereted: Ujelang, Wetho, Rongerik, and Exnivwetok. At each site two stations were operated about one mile apart. The diff- erence in arrival times gives the angle of incidence of the shock and information veral stations may be combined te give the winds, ron good shot records were obtained from al) stations except Rongerik, which had high ambiemt wind noise. However enough directions are available for the Bikini shot to allow osonosphere wind and temperature resolution, but this has not yet been accamplished, BEST AVAILABLE COPY = 7 -
