In a conversation with Dr. Donaldson on Friday, June 20, he mentioned
that Col. Lucke had informed him that he (Col. Lucke) had not received
official word of the change in schedule of the DE "Silverstein" for
the post-Hardtack oceanic survey.
In a letter from DBM (Seymour) to
Lucke on March 3, the change in schedule for Program 40.1 was outlined
with mention of the accompanying change for the "Silverstein", The
change had been made in response to a request from Lt. Gol, Schnittke
who in turn was acting in response to a request from the Joint Task
Force.
In ‘regard to the problem brought to our attention by Donaldson,
Schnittke believes that the problem will be solved by finding the
letter that was sent from the Joint Task Force to Task Group 7.1
in which the Task Force asked that information on the contamination
of the water in the Restricted Area be obtained as soon after the
conclusion of the Hardtack series as possible. This is the letter
that Schnittke mentioned in the conversation with you and me a few
days before you left for the Pacific and which he suggested that you
locate after your arrival at Eniwetok.
After you have located the letter and have had an opportunity to
discuss the matter with Lucke and Donaldson Would you please let
us know, as soon as possible, if further action is needed,
