I had meant to see you this morning about the new Bikini
Expedition, but here is the problem in brief.

The Navy is sending out threo ships, sailing from San
about July 1, including an APA for persormel, a submarine tender
nical work, and an LCI for something. The expedition will spend
weeks at Bikini. The nroject is to see what is left, espocially
Baker.

The Navy would like to have Dr. L. Rs Donaldson, of the University of Washington, together with a group of about ten of his people, as
members of the party. Sinoe Dr. Donaldson is working on an AEC contract,
could this trip be considered a part of the contrast and paid for by the
AEC? Total cost is estimated at about $25,000.

The Navy also needs a half dozen radio-chemists. They partioularly want Roy Overstreet and Lewis Jacobson from the University of Calt
fornia. The University is not mthusiastio. Mr. Forrestal hae written
to President Sproul.
