The economic difficuities of the former Bikini people were alleviated when they were paid the sum of $325,000 by the Government in exchange for the use of Bikini Atoll. The interest from the trust fund, into which $300,000 was placed is a quaranteed income which helps the local economy. This Will become less significant as, the population increases, as it has since the fund was established in 1956.
