GENERAL:
a.

Scope of instructions:

(1)

This operation order covers that period between the

completion of the CASTLE operational phase and the beginning of build-

up for the subsequent test (REDWING, scheduled for the Spring of 1956).
(2) "Forward Area" is defined as that area encompassing
the MARSHALL ISLANDS.

(3)

"Closed Area" is defined as including the land areas

of ENIWETOK and BIKINI ATOLLS, the water areas of the lagoons and the
water areas within three (3) miles to the seaward side of each land —
area, The BIKINI Closed Areawill be established to provide for safety

of transient personnel. The Task Force will not be required to maintain its status as a Closed Area,

(1) Commander Task Group 7.2 (CTG 7.2) assumes the respo.:sibilities of Atoll Commander, ENIWETOK (ATCOM) upon departure of Commar%
er, Joint Task Force SEVEN (CJTF SEVEN) and major elements of the Tas

Force from the Forward Area.

(2) Upon departure of CJTF SEVEN and major elements of
JTF SEVEN from the Forward Area, and upon completion of the operational '
phase of CASTLE, ATCOM is relieved of responsibility for the general
security of BIKINI aTOLL, retaining responsibility to Canmander~in~
Chief Pacific (CINCPAC) for the general security of the Closed Area of

ENIVETOK ATOLL.
