RESURVEY OF ANEAETOK ISLAND

As you recall, about ten of the Marshallese returned to Aneastok
Island for permanent cesupancy., Since we did not have sufficient
radiological data from this island I had recommended that we imnediately institute a resurvey. Those in charge of the progran felt
thay would be unable to do go until December of this year, se that
we asked IMA if they would request the RadSafe pecple at Eniwetok
to make a gamma survey.
Pheir results are contained in a oopy of
a teletype (attached). You will note that the gamsa dose rates
are not significantly different from Rongelap. This is encouraging
and I hope wil) "hold the line” wti a fwll survey can be made.
Sinse this problem has arisen,] would like to repeat my recoumenda-
tion of September 13, 1957, that we request through the Departasnt
of Interior information on the present hebite of the movensnts of
the Rongelapese
