This will acknowledge receipt of your memorancum dated 22 Septenver, 1954, forwarding the United ftetes Naval Raciological Defense
Laboretory proposal for a radiological survey of the atolis ef
anc other atolls in the Marshall Islands, This proposal,
dated July 6, 195, was develeped prior to the duly 12 and 13 meet-
ings here in Washington, st which time the Division of Biology and
Nedicine met with representatives of the Armed Forces Special Weapons
Project, Naval Radiolozical Defense Leboratory, Neval Mecical Research
ane:
Institute, and the Bureau of Medicine end Surgery, to discuss future
studies ef these atolls, both medical and radiological.
Since this meeting inferael discussions concerning future plans have
been held between the Division ef Biclogy and Kedicine, Ir, Donaldson
ef the University of Washincton Applied Fisheries Laboratory, who, as
you know, has a eontimuing program ef study et the Facific Proving
Ground, and the Naval Raciological Defense Laborstory. A final diseussion ef the requiressnts for the regurvey of the atolls anc the
best utilisstien of the talents end mmpower svailable fron both
groups took place October 2 at Hunter's Point,
