and grantiagof a “Q” type securityclearance. Th@_activationof new organizations
of the Armed Forcesfor servicewith the
Task Force duringthe planningstagesresultedin an intermittentflow
of clearancerequeststhat variedin numberfrom day to day. As the
necessityfor new unitsbecameevident,the requisitioning
of personnel
was steppedup, thus causing,in numerousinstances,abruptincreases
in the numberof requestsfor loyaltyclearances. ke to the demands
of the Presidents LoyaltyProgram,the investigative
load upon the
FBI was abnormallyheavy in the fall of 19&7 and the Joint Task Force
was requiredto sharetop prioritywith other agenciesseekingearly
actionin personnelsecurl~ clearancerequests.
Under thesecircumstances,
the PersonnelSecuri~ Branchwas faced
with the necessityof assuringthat:
a. All personnelassignedto or associatedwith the Task Force:
classified
~. Understoodthe urgentneed for safeguarding
information.
Furnishedadequateidentifjdngdata (includingfingerprints
and personalhisto~ statements)on which subsequent investigations
and clearancedecisionswould be
