Although no member of the carrier unit of which the Rendova was a
part received a radiation dose greater than 2.185 rem, the helicopter
crews as a group received the highest radiation exposures in the carrier
unit (see Table 7.1).
On the night of 1 November, the commander of the joint task force had
set 0900, 2 November, as the tentative time for general reentry.
At 0800
on 2 November, the CTG 132.2 and the task group's radiological safety
officer helicoptered ashore from the Collins.
Task force ships reentered
the lagoon at about 0954 and by 1110 elements of TG 132.2 and the Holmes
and Narver contingent from Enewetak Island started ashore by boat.
