C. 20240 ‘Dear Stew: In accordance with your letter of December 7, 1966, and ay reply of December 20, 1966, the Atomic Energy Comeission in collaboration with the Trust Territories sent a team to the Bikini Atoll to make measure- ments of the externa) radiation dose rate and to collect samples of soil and biota, the analysis of which would permit an estimate of the hazard of internal dose. The survey was conducted in April-May 1967. Analysis of the radiation measurements and of the collected samples is now complete and reports of the results have been prepared. Under the guidance of Dr. John R. Totter, Director of the Division of Biology and Medicine, a meeting is to be held in May 1968, at which the members of the survey team, together with a group of expert consultants, will review the results and develop a recommendation to the AEC with regard to the feasibility, from a radiation standpoint, of the return of the natives to the Bikini Atoll, When the recommendation of the above group has been received by the Commission, I will be in touch with you egain.
