1.1.1 General Objectives
In Operation Redwing, ten devices designed by LASL were fired. Some
of these were proof tests of devices suitable as weapons for the national
stockpile, whereas others were experimental devices of a forward-looking
nature which could be weaponized if their performance proved sufficiently

attractive. On each of these shots diagnostic experiments were made to
evaluate their performance if they worked properly, or to determine the
difficulty if they did not. In addition, many experiments were undertaken to
obtain more precise understanding of the factors and physical properties

which underlie nuclear weapon design or the effects that they Produce.
