Meeting #1634, 1 July 1960:
In attendance at this Commission meeting were the Lab Directors,
Loper, Reeves, and Jerry Johnson.
The meeting was devoted to 'US
Proposalfor a Seismic Research Program,''
and McCone opened by
reporting that as a result of the 30 June 1960 meeting of the principals,
"A new proposal for the seismic research program involving the use of
US,
US and the USSR nuclear devices pursuant to a proposed joint
congressional resolution had been drafted for transmittal as an instruction
to Ambassador Wadsworth.''
The details of this new proposal are then
set forth and a long discussion involving the lab directors and othersensued,
which is extracted in its entirety for our files.
As a result of the meeting,
instructions from the AEC for the Department of State were prepared
and transmitted.
