On 27 December 1951 the Joint Chiefs of Staff directed the

It is contemplated that this headquarters will setivate the
Camiander, Joint Task Foree 132 to initiate action on those activities
essential to the IVY tests.
Seientifie Task Group (Taak Group 132.1) on 2 January 1952. For the
present, Commander Joint Task Foree 132 will assume operational sontro!
of the Selentific Task Group for planning and eocordination only.
Full
operational control of Task Group 1321 will be assumed by the Commander, Joint Task Force 132 at a later date when movement to the test
site becomes imminent, and as mutually arranged between the Commander,
foint Task Toree 132 and the Atomic Enerey Commiasion.
