4. Dr. A. 4, Tester and assistants olan to use thBL for extended veriods
this year, parvicularly during the summer, in their research sunoorted oy the
Office of Naval Research, vroject Honr-2756(00), "Xesearch on Shark sehavior."
Dr. Tester will be at «iBL from 26 January to 10 sebruary, 1959, to investizate
the opportunities ror conducting experiments on the behavior of sharks, both
in tanks and in netural waters. This project is varticularly apropos ror -iisb,
ooth from the standpoint of the availability of sharks and from the standooint
of learning more about the potential shark hazard at Hniwetoxk,

Dr. x, Ww. Hiatt will have two graduate students at i.8L the entire
sumer working on the biology ot land crabs. I vlan to svend about four weeks
there during the summer and shorter periods during the remainder of the year.
I will be at sBL from 26 January to 10 february, 1959 during my first visit
since my return from Europe, A new inventory will be made’ and supniies checked

Dr. John Garth will spend about our wee.:s at =i.3L late in the summer
to collect additional data on the larger crustaceans on which he plan to prevare
a vaver for vublication.

7, Mr. #red 4iesenhenne is uncertain whether or not he will have an
opportunity to collect additional echinoderms this summer before he comoletes
his studies tor the named reference collection.
8. The Laboratory of zadiation Biology of the University of Washinzton
will utilize =SMBL facilities as follows:
a, During late Febrfyry and arch this group, together with a groun
ot about 20 persons rrom the srooxhaven iiational Laboratory under the direction
of Dr. Robert Gonard, will go to HhbL, xongelap and Utirik.
b. A second tris by this grou. will take vlace during July and August.
For the March trip a jeep or a weapons carrier will be needed from Eniwetok

for the work on tongelan, as will loading and mloading facilities for the iron — ,
room now stored at in3L. Laooratory space will be needed for 6-d veonle at
mviBL, M-boats and other supsort facilities will be provided.
For the summer trip use of the L3ii Alato is necessary and arrangements
will be made at Eniwetok to racilitate this. A "DUK" and overator and a jeep
or weapons carrier will be out aboard. Laboratory space for 6-12 persons will
be required at varying veriods during this time. Local and inter-atoll rlights
will be arranged.
Dr. Paul Saunders, working with the venoms of stone fish and turkey Tish,
writes that he will not want to go to -i3L this summer, but should like the
laboratory assistants to send him all the stone tish and spines of turey tish
they can collect. A shinrent to him or sucn material was made as or this date,
