Project 2.4 - Decontamination and Protection - J. C. Maloney
OBIECTIVES
To study the contamination of various types of building surfaces
exposed at various orientationsto the fallout.
To study the effectiveness of various decontamination procedures,
and thus obtain data on the radislogical recovery of military installations constructed from the tested types of material.
INSTRUMENT AT TON
Instrumentation was similar to that on the SEEMcx220xze)
except:
Due to the difficulty in manipulating the canvag covers protecting
the panels on the two structures, it was decided to forego the postshot
Surface covering.
Due to inadequate fallout on the YAG-39 from BE (2:1),
the panels were not removed from this ship or decontaminated.

No radiochemical work is planned for the MRRMEY Shot.
RVSULTS
The following pages list the experimental results obtaine2? so far,
Numerical zero in the table means that the particular reading was so low
(less than 7 mr/hr) that the statistical error was too large to give a
meaningful result,
All of the panels are from the YAG-49,
Residual percentages shown in this table are based on panel contamination levels as measured in the project area,
Investigations will
be made to determine the amount of original fallout contamination which
was washed or blown off the panels before they were taken off the YAG-40.
