November 3, 1970 . Mr. John A. Aldredge Ili, FIMC, USN MISTRAULANT, FAAWIC Dam Neck, Virginia 23461 Dear Mr. Aldredge: I appreciate very much your sending me the information concerning your cancer of the thyrotd., It would certainly be difficuit to know if there was any definite correlation between the radiation exposure that you incurred and the later development of the thyroid abnormality. Offhand, I would not guess that you received very much thyroid radiation from the exposure, So far as I know, there are no checks being made on the many thousands of mon who have been involved in tha atomic bend testing program, It would be @ mammoth job to locate these men, much less determine the posaible radiation exposure, ‘As you know, the exposure of the Rongelap people was quite heavy and it does not seem likely that the sporadic exposure to considerably emailer doses on ships could have resulted in any such thyroid findings as found in the Marshallese. Again, I appreciate your writing me and should you hear of any other cases similar to youre, please let ma know. With best wishes, BEST AVAILABLE COPY ( 1 mactss Sincerely, . Robert A.Conard, M. D.
