L_

HOA :NSR-2606

Mr. Norwood, HICOM of the Trust Territory called us on the

Mr. Bonnet was out of the office

phone Tuesday November 22.

so Mr. Norwood talked to T. H. Blankenship and myself. He

was interested in knowing what we had found out about return-

ing Bikini te the former residents. We told him NVO had fur-

nished some information, but that since Bikini was under the

control of DOD there was not much we could do about it.

stated he would write to DASA thru the Dept. of Interior.

He

He

said the matter was urgent since he must relocate the people
living on the Island of Kili and they would prefer to return to
their previous home Bikini.

We told Mr. Norwood that if DASA released the six Radsafe
sites we would like to retain the site and three buildings on
Utirik. He was agreeable to that.

Mr. Norwood stated he had found out in Washington that the war

debris problem was tied up in war claims against Japan, so the
two test vessels in question could not be used to trade for clean-

ing up war debris.

Mr. Norwood stated he was sorry his tight schedule would not

permit him to visit our office but that he would be back in

February and would try to visit us then.
