ALAV most of the radioactive clows created in the Castle series extended to very great heights, and the greater part of the cloud in levels beyond the reach of routine meteorological observations. For this reason, it has been impossible to prepare adequate meteorological trajectories to determine the oath of the debris at various levels. The network of upper air observing stations in the tropics is extremely sparse at best, and wind reports at levels above 40,000 feet’are virtually nonexistent, with the exception of a few from stations in the Marshall Islands and adjacent areas established especially for this test series. Even at these stations, the| highest observations rarely extend above 100,000 ft. a Ey
