The Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA)
publishes, "Thyroid
Neoplasia in Marshail Islanders Exposed to Nuclear Fallout,” by Thdmas E. Hamilton,
Gerald van Belle, and James P. LoGerfo from the University of Washington. Using
results from examinations of 7,266 Marshallese from 14 atolls, iqcluding southern
atolls, the authors studied the risk of thyroid neoplasia in Marshall [slanders exposed
to radioiodines from Castle Bravo. Their study reveals that "an pxcess of thyroid
nodules was notlimited only to the two northern atolls but extendgd throughout the
northern atolls; this suggests a linear dose-response relationship.”
