2. Eniwetok and Bikini Atolls were retdined by the United
States following World War II. All former occupants of
these Atolls were relocated on other islands or atolls. The
United States paid compensation in the sums of $175,000 for
Eniwetok and $325,000 for Bikini to the High Commissioner of
the Trust Texritory for costs incurred in land acquisition
and permanent relocation of the former occupants of the Atolls.
3. The two Atolls were initially used by the Atomic Energy
Commission as a proving ground. Thereafter, by Agreement
OT theD June 30, 1960, between the Atomic Energy Commissfon and
the Department of Defense, the former proving ground was
