Los Alamos, N.M., August 23 -- Carroll L. Tyler,

Menager of the Santa Fe Operations Office, Atomic Energy

Commission,

today announced the award of a contract to the

firm of Holmes and Narver, Engineers, Los Angeles, California

for maintenance and improvement of facilities at the Atomic
Energy Commission Proving Ground at Eniwetok Atoll in the
Marshall Islands.

The Atomic Energy Commission announced establishment of the proving ground in its Second Semi-Annual Report

in July, 1947.

=n preparation for the 1948 tests, interim

repairs were made to war-built structures on the atoil.
The new program is designed to make repairs,

replace

certain structures and utilities rendered useless by the
tropical climate and to install more durable technical facilities required in the operation of the Proving Ground,
Agencies of the National Military Establishment are assisting
in this program.
