OPERATION

The REDWOOD device was csatcnated on a barre north of Fox Island,
Biking Atoll, at 0530M, 28 June 1958,
RadSafe operations were controlled
through the USS Beaner, located in the Bikini Lagoon.

The cloud moved cut of the lagoon area rapidly, and at C600M the
P2V (Wildroot 413) commenced his radiological survey at 1,000 fect.

Dog Island read 25 mur/hr, and George Island read 47 r/hr at
0630M.

The helicopter commenced the survey at 0650M, and re-entry hour
was declared at O700M,.

The only significant readings were obtained near
They ware:
Charlie Island, 500-600 mr/br at 100 feet;
the crater, 5 r/hr at 100 feet at 0720M.

The P2V was then vectored on radials of 260 degrees, 270 degrees,
and 090 degrees from Bikini for 100 miles as a barrier patrol.
The fall-
out pattern was forecast on mean Deasrings of 270 degrees and 360 degrees.
The P2V found no fallout nerth and east of this predicted area, and it
was released at 1100M,
