CHAPTER Vil, SECTION 2
One of the more difficult problems encountered during the final roll-up was that of
maintaining a work crew consisting of men with
sufficient experience who had not reached the
permissible dosage of radiation exposure.
The post-Nectar recovery program at Eniwetok Atoll for scientific equipment and other
facilities was started on 17 May 1954; this
work was completed by 20 May 1954. As the
test period of OPERATION CASTLE cameto

an end, a considerable amount of repair, over-

hauling and preservation of equipment and the
return of stores to warehouses had been com-

pleted. The mothballing program of H&N equip-

ment was started on 21 May. Thefinal removal
of AEC property and thelast of the mothballing
was completed approximately on 10 June.
During the interval between operations,
maintenance of Scientific Stations or facilities
at both Atolls will be on a minimum basis. It
is anticipated that transportation will be arranged through the Navy which will permit inspection trips to Bikini every four to six months
at which time anti-corrosion measures will be
accomplished to the extent possible.
