Beebe, Ph.D., Clinical Epidemiology Branch, DCCP, NCI SUBJECT: Comment on Dr. Conard's letter of March 9, 1978 1. Dr. Conard spoke to me about the compensation of the Marshallese when we were together in Vienna last week. I think his list is incomplete insofar as it represents the experience of the Japanese Abomb survivors, and that any list of affected sites would have to be somewhat open-ended because we seem still to be adding sites in Japan. Of course, the GI tract includes a number of organs for which we have only suspicions, not good evidence, at this time. In addition to his list I would add, from the Japanese experience, the salivary gland, organs of the urinary tract (although it may be that only the bladder is involved), and lymphatic and hematopoietic tissues other than their involvement through leukemia. What I feel more uncertain about is the applicability of the Japanese experience to the Marshallese, of course. SAA ee as )
