The initial list of AACS equipment required for &iwetok end Kwajalein had been previously submitted during October and this equipment arrived at Port Huenezm on 7 November 1947. A supplementary list of equipment for installationat the weather reporting stations on Rongerik, Majuro and Wake Islands was submitted and processed early in December. on 1 December 4 4 i 1947~ a request WaS received froM the Air Task Group for AN/CP’N-6radar beacons to be instailed on Kwajalein, Eniwetolcand each of the three zero islands for the puqmee I ! , of providing navigationalfixes for drone control aircraft. In view of the critical shortage of this equipment, an investigationwas made to determine the euitability of the AN/UPN-4 radar beacm as a substitute, since the latter was in more plentiful 8upp1y. HOWeVer$ it I was founi that the range of the AN/UPN radar beacon was limited to approximately30 milee. It was finally necessary to ask the Navy to provide two AN/CPN-6 beacons, with the Air Force supplying the remaining requirementof three.
