Davis of the Operations Analysis Office, Strategic Air Command, was selected as chief of this organization and was assigned to the 311th Air Division, Reconnaissance. The unit was formed and equipped in Jsnuary at Eglin Field under the supervision of the 311th Air Division. It was there that a detailed mockup of the photo tower was constructed. All the camera installations,automatic ttiers and wiring circuits which were used in the operational area were worked out in detail in the mockup2 an action which brought to light and eradicated most all.of the operating end mechanical ‘bugs’. This action saved much valuable the in the theater snd gave assurance against failure of the unit to accomplish its mission. In all, four photographic towers were constructed and used; one on a coral head in the lagoon and three on the islands. The coral head tower was utilized for the recording of the three blasts, in conjunctionwith one on Aomon for X-RAY, one on Runit for YOKE, and one on Aniyaanii for ZEBRA, and thus records of each detonation were obtained frmm different angles. d.
