Department of Energy Washington, D.C. 20545 September 6, 1978 Roger Ray, NV As a part of our followup effort, we would appreciate your arranging at an early date for logistic support for whole body counting of the Bikini residents. In our view it is desirable for all persons counted in April 1978 to be recounted. However, if this is not possible, priority should be given to counting a representative group including those having the highest levels in April, 1978. Preliminary discussions with staff of DOI indicate the possibility of using a Trust Territory ship for this, and Jaluit Atoll was suggested as the location to do the counting. tie me a WHOLE BODY COUNTING Also, we are concerned that we have been unable to follow through on the Ad Hoc Committee recommendations that baseline whole body counting data be obtained for the Enewetakese who have returned to live on Japtan Isiand. It is requested that you seek to arrange for these measurements to be made. Scheduling should be coordinated with the BNL staff who will provide technical direction for the survey. BNL has been asked to coordinate their effort with appropriate Trust Territory officials and seek their advice and assistance in planning the survey trip so that the proper arrangements can be made with the Enewetak people.
