ABSTRACT

Most of the seabirds that occur at Eniwetok have a very
wide range in the Pacific basin, and they have not been
shown to demonstrate a tendency for subspeciation.
Because of its geographical location, Eniwetok provides
a nesting habitat for some species whose primary
breeding range is north of the atoll and for others
whose primary breeding range is south of it.
Approximately 17 species of shorebirds that nest in
Alaska or Siberia have been recorded as migrating to the
Eniwetok Atoll in winter. A checklist of Eniwetok birds
is presented.

The goals of this report are to provide a checklist of
all the reptiles found on Eniwetok. Seven species of
lizards and one species of blind snake comprise the
known terrestrial herpetofauna there. Species found on
nearby atolls may also be present on Eniwetok; however,
no additional species have been collected from there. No
amphibians or sea snakes have been found on Eniwetok.
The biogeography and the ecology of the reptiles found
there are presented.
