Van Netta the possibility of locating two air sampling units at Kwajalein in May. Col. Van Netta stated that he foresees no difficulty with this request provided we obtain your concurrence. The Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) has several continuing responsibilities in Marshall Islands concerning nuclear test affected atolls. One of our laboratories, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has been directed by ERDA/HQ to proceed with environmental survillance at Rongelap, Utirik and Bikini to gather data on the resuspension of radionuclides in the air. A basic part of a surveillance program of this type is to aiso establish air samples in a non-affected area to serve as a comparison or control. We propose to locate two air sampling units on Kwajalein and Roi-Namur islands. Mr. Nat Greenhouse from BNL will coordinate this with Col. Van Netta when he arrives on island in May.
