UNITED STATES 408515 ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION WASHINGTON 25, D. C. | c 0 April 1, 1957 P y Dear Raddy: I have been informed that the Joint Chiefs have selected General Luedecke to be the Commander of Joint Task Force Seven which will conduct the HARDTACK Test Series at the Pacific Proving Grounds in 1958. All of us here agree that General Luedecke is an excellent selection. How- ever, I think I should call your attention to the fact that in the appointment hitherto of General Clarkson, Admiral Momsen and Admiral Hanion, the Department con- sulted me before the choice was settled upon so that I could discuss it with the Commission in view of the fact that the Commander of the Joint Task Force is also the senior representative of the Atomic Energy Commission in the operation. An oversight must have occurred in this ease, but I think that a record should be made in order that the right of the Commission to be consulted should be preserved for the future. Faithfully yours, /s/ Lewis Lewis L. Strauss Admiral Arthur W. Radford Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff The Pentagon Washington 25, D. C. 51-$8 REPOSITORY c *D COLLECTION BOX No. FOLDER aA 9.
