RECEIVER: Reply|penn message. keep _| 5027-101 — FOLD ~~ - SE BRIEF, INFORMAL LANGUAGE BEST COPY AVAILABLE ~~ Dear Lorin: Enclosed is Voucher No, 423-67 dated November 30 for land rental pay- ments to the people of Ujelang (FY 1966 $67.50) and Utirik (FY 1967 $75.00). Since the responsibility for payment of these rentals rests with the Department of Defense, the billings should go directly to them as in prior years. We forwarded the previous bill sent to this office to: The Chief, Defense Atomic Support Agency DASALG 600.1, Department of Defense, Washington D. C. 20301 for payment. However, we believe passing them through this office may result in considerable delay and possibly some confusion. Bob Shoecraf is quite familiar with these arrangements. You may wishto talk to him about this. The responsibility for all weather rad-safe sites in the Marshalls were transferred from the AEC in 1960 to the DOD. In the event the DOD decides to terminate theleases, the AEC will need to make arrangements to retain the site on Utirik for the use of the AEC Medical surveys. We are in the process of revising our budget for FY 1967 and it would be appreciated if you would notify us of any charges to the AEC you have accrued to date.
