The Support Contractor at EPG hag conducted a limited environmental
sampling progran on Eniwetok and Bikini Atolls during previous in-
terim yeriods.
Gross beta activity was determined on selected san-
ples of fish, plant life, rain and ses vater.
It is proposed to broaden the Support Contractor's testing program
to include a limited fission product separation on soil, marine life
and vegetation plus urinalysis, when indicated, fer gross alpha.
The dolmeg & Narver Red-Safety Officer is a competent radiochemiat
and this program would be carried out under bis jurisdiction. A
single channel anslyzer has been purchased for Operation dardtack
and will be available to Holmes & Narver during the interin period.
Further, Task Group 7.1 has two rad-chemistry trailers at BPG, and
arrangements could be made to have ane of these trailers left at
Site Eimer during the interim period if the need can be justified.
Laboratory procedures used by Dr. Donaldson's group will be utilized.
More specifically we heve in mind conducting the following samplinc:
Routinely on a monthly basis:
Water, for gross beta, ther
fission product separation.
Fish, for gross beta, then
fission product aeparetion.
Plants, for gross beta, then
Special:
Soil sampling, Sr 3, and to study seepage of
radloactive particles into coral sand.
Bottom sampling, aipha, beta and Mission products,
particularly from iocationa where one~-points have
been detonated.
