SLIDE 7 Rate of rise of exposure rate. The rate at which exposure rate rises to the peak value has an impact on estimates of whole-body dose. Rate of rise of exposure rate at Rongerik Atoll was estimated from monitoring instrument readings taken for one-half hour (S055). Rate of rise was determined also from results supplied by Peterson (Pe81). Exposure rate contours from graphs provided by Peterson were evaluated for different times for the Rongerik location. A best fit of the data yielded an exponential rise in exposure rate. A comparison of the two, measured versus that based on Peterson's work, indicated wide discrepancy in rate of rise, the measured data being mch steeper. | oT ] | | T RISE OF EXPOSURE RATE AT RONGERIK —-—-—--— MEASURED ON MARCH I,!954 ————— ESTIMATED BY PETERSON, I98i i 1074 z i F oO us oO z a us -5 E 3 a J Lo Sf ac Z / tJ 10-6 E- z F Lal ~ b o a<t - C x / Py a oF 10-8 6.8 Yo 4 : _ ee 2 5 2 4 // DIO F J / x Oo y / ih °” / |- lu . a ul 10 W q 74 ¢ / ° 7 = / 5 ; 1 { 6.9 | 7.0 1 7.1 { 7.2 __I 7.3 TIME POST DETONATION, HOURS 12 _ 7,4 75
