Box 580 Honolulu, Hawaii 96809 Dear Sir: This is a special inquiry regarding the radioactive safety of the Peter-Oboe complex of islands in the Bikini Atoll. As you may know, we are in the midst of the replanting phase of our rehabilitation project which, according to plan, involves only Bikini and Eneu Islands. However, because the replanting crews will be leaving Bikini Atoll within the next few months, we would like to have them replant coconuts in the Peter-Oboe complex if it is safe to do so. Workers would have to stay on these islands during planting for several weeks, but no permanent habitation would be involved later. We need advice from the Atomic Energy Commission as to the relative safety of our proceeding with the replanting of the Peter-Oboe complex before June of this year. An earliest possible reply will be most appreciated, Sincerely yours, Is/ Edward E. Johnston High Commissioner
