H. deSaussure, Jr. Commander Test Command, Defense Atomic Support Agency Sandia Base Albuquerque, New Mexico 87115 Dear General deSaussure: Reference the Memorandum of Understanding between the Division of Miiitary Application, AEC and the Defense Atomic Support Agency, DOD, on Cleanup of Bikini Atoll, dated 11 February 1969. This will certify that the program of radioactive scrap removal, environmental sampling, and general radiological cleanup at Bikini Atoll has been satisfactorily completed. Food and environmental samples collected during the operational cleanup period are presently being analyzed at the SWRHL and University of Washington laboratories. Results of these analyses will be incorporated inté a final report to AEC HQ which will include recommendations concerning use of the land and consumption of locally available foods in connection with the resettlement program, Enclosed is a final status report for the radiological cleanup effort and certification from Mr. Al Smith, Radiological Safety Advisor to CJTG 8.8, that the program has been completed.
