Chairman, Military Liaison Committee to AEC
Dear Mr. McCone:
The Air Force plans to accomplish a Hiran survey in the mid-Pacific.
The survey is designed to accomplish a first order geodetic tie between
Wake, Eniwetcok, Bikini, Taongi and other selected islands in the Marshall-~
Gilbert group.
To accomplish this task, it will be necessary to house four (4) Air
Force personnel, shelter approximately 2,000 pounds of radio and electronic surveying equipment and erect a smal] temporary radio antenna
(25' to 50%) at each of the above islands for a period of ninety (90)
days. Present plans indicate 1 November 1958 as the "in-place" date for
this project.
Are there any object*ons to the use of Eniwetok and Bikini during
the period 1 November 195¢ - 1 February 1959? The Air Force unit will
be self supporting and will not require the use of any AEC facilities.
Sincerely,
‘
a,
Col
