(Coe and Bush departed Ponape for Kapingamarangi at 07730).
General discussion of weather station site requirements, etc.

Conferred with Mr. Hedges (Distad) from 0900 to 1030 hours.
Hedges advised that Site #1 would be unacceptable from the Trust
Territories standpoint as this site is committed for future housing, and
that site #2 could not be acquired as the Protestant Mission would net
release this land, nor would they lease it for weather station use. Hedges
aleo advised that it is a fact that Pomeroy, Page and the U. 3. Army Communication
forces will, within the next two (2) months start construction on a 2-1/2 million
dellar communication relay station. This construction will involve the following
itens of interest at this time to weather station planning, estimating and
oonstructien:

AM ac. road will be constructed as the first itemand construction
on this road from the Airfield #1 to the town of Ponape will start
within two months.
2.
Pomercy will establish messing and housing facilities in the tom of
Ponape for read and communication station construction. It is
Mr. Headges opinion that this housing and messing can be made available
to Hail, as Trust Territory housing and messing is already utilised to
capacity.
3. Water fron existing syatem is available at Site #3 by running
approximately 1000' of line or obtaining water from supply to Pomercy
camp and @ permanent supply later on from the communication station,
ete.

Power from Ponape is available; however, distribution would need to
be extended to weather station site. The communication center will
have an independent power supply and it is recommended that permanent
weather station power be supplied from this source.
