Dear Mr. Pearsor:
It is gratifying to learn fron your letter of October
Ol, 1954 (reference S40:PBP), that Dr. Doty's provosal for research
on Marshallese plants is receiving sympathetic consideration in your
office. We firmly believe that the improvement of the basic food
and commercial crops of the Marshallese through well-conceived
botanical research ani a follow-u> planting program will do much to
ameliorate the present straishtene2 circumstances of the displaced
Bikinians and peovle of Eniwetok. we are grateful for your interest
and naturally hone that your decisicn in the matter will be favorable.
I shall be pleased if ;9u can arrange to stop in Guam on
vour return from Japan.
It will be a pleasure to confer with you
then about the Dcty proposel and other matters of mutual interest.
Sincerely yours,
13
