Upton,
Dear
New
Dr.

Conard:
Thank you for your letter of January 4, 1978, which
listed the names of additional Marshallese who were
exposed to fallout and who should be considered for
compensation under P.L. 95-134.
Compensation for these
individuals will be requested in the FY 1978 Supplemental.
If all goes according to schedule, funds for the new cases
might
be
available
by May.
The surgery cases of
1 and
.
already
are known to the High Commissioner's office and these two
individuals will be told that their compensation will be
forthcoming later this year.
For the time being, I
suggest that we not release the names of the “hypothyroid
cases" until the Supplemental Appropriation is further
along.
By
that
time
also,
as you
indicate,
additional cases will have been identified.
Sincerely
very likely
yours,
NIRS. RUTH G. VAN CLEVE
