Dear Doctor Shipman:
There is a dearth of information with respect to the management of
personnel subject to radioactivity here at the Eniwetok Proving Ground.
Your name was suggested by Mr. Henry Schlacks, radiation safety man here,
as someone extensively acquainted in the field.
The medical officers of the command lack any specialized knowledge
in the problem of radiation and mass destruction weapon effects, and any
suggestion you might have as to reliable sources of information, such as
articles, monographs, books, informational organizations, would be greatly appreciated. We presume we can obtain from Army sources information
as to what to do and are interested more in the how and why of such
matters as the pathogenesis and symptomatology of radiation injuries, in
any prophylftic measures that may be taken, in hazards arising from fallout and accumulation of isotopes in artifacts or foodstuffs.
We hope that such a broad request for information and informational
sources will not prove to be an imposition upon you.

Sincerely yours,
DNEY M. W. COOK
