scientificstaff, from whom J-3 had been more or less isolated on the
trip down as the scientific personnel were all aboardthe other three
ships. As a resultof these conferences, therewere many revisionsto
the Evacuation,dmergencyEvacuation,and Re-entry plans ad the J-3
Check List (lJCL).
General Barker inspected installations and activities of J-3
interest, includinga test of the dronetank operationson Gngebi
Islandand droneaircraftoperationsat both Kwajalefiad fiiwetok
Islands, soon afterarrivalof the AGC-7 at Eniwetok. Duringthe
later operation,a decisionwas made to fly the drone aircraftfrom
Eniwetokinsteadof KwajaleinduringPeterX-Ray Day test. It had
firstbeen planpedto operateall aircraftfrom Kwajaleinwhere more
extensivemaintenancefacilitieswere availablefor electronicand
othermaintenancework. It also reducedthe rehabilitation
of housing
at Eniwetok. The drone aircraftwere to be landedat Zniwetokafter
each operationbecauseradio chemistsneededto remve the contaminated
ffi sampleswere not availablefor Kwajaleti. The objectionto this
schenmof maneuverwas that good droneoperatingweatherhad to prevail
Kwajaleinand Eniwetokto permitproceedingwith the test.
Accordingly,on PeterX-Ray Day, testswere made to determinethe
feasibilityof flyingthe dronesmanuallyto Eniwetokthe afternoon
beforeeach test after finalchecking-out
of all electronicequipment.
The dronescouldthen be taken off and landed at Eniwetok. This did
provefeasibleand this plan of operationwas adoptedfor X, Y and Z
Days.
