ANNEX B TO CJTF 132 OPERATION ORDER NO, 5-52
CONCEPT AND NARRATIVE OF OPERATIONS
i.
The period covered by this narrative extends beyond the period for which
this Operation Order is effective,
This has been done to acquaint all ele-
ments of the Task Force at the earliest practicable date with the nature and
scope of Operation CASTLE.
There will be three (3) or four (4) experimental devices tested at the AiC
Pacific Proving Ground.
There may be an air drop during Operation CASTLE.
There are three (3) possibilities at present:
a.
Two (2) thermonuclear devices (NAN and OBOE) will be detonated at
BIKINI.
Two (2) fission devices (PETER and SUGAR) will be detonated at
ENIWETOK.
b.
One (1) thermonuclear device (NAN) will be detonated at BIKINI.
(3) devices(OBOE thermonuclear, TARE and suGAR
fission) will be detonated
at EXIWETOK.

Three (3) devices (NAN, PETER and SUGAR) will be detonated at ENIWETOK.
All personnel based on ENIWETOK ATOLL will be evacuated prior to each therm-
nuclear ENIWETOK shot,
in two or three days,
Reentry after cach shot is expected to be accomplished
Because of the possible residual radiation it may be
necessary to quarter personnel aboard ship for a period of three to ten days.
All personnel based on BIKINI ATOLL will be evacuated prior to each BIKINI
shot, In the event of two shots at BIKINI, reentryy.2d operation of the
second base camp will be required after the first shot.
In the event of one
shot at BIKINI, or after the second shot of two shots, reentry will be limi-
ted to t
covery of scientific instrumentation and data.
