after shot time, and an interpolation was mede for the shot time
winds. Where those soundings nearby in time and space did not
reach the altitude of the cloud top, soundings more remote in
time and space were used to estimate the mean winds. No attempt
was made to consider time end space variability in the wind.
Table 3 gives the selected mean winds for the various bursts,
slong with the identification of the soundings used in the esti-
mations.
The times of fall through 5,000-foot layars of selected sizes
of a spherical particle of specific gravity 2.5, for a tropical
atmosphere as comuted by H-Division of the Los Alamos Scientific
Laboratory, are given in fable h.
The times for the 291 micron line were used along with the
Se
assumed maan Winds in determining the positions of the 21 micron
line in Figures 3-1),.
