SUBJECT: commISSION DECISION ON SAC USE OF ENIWETOK PROVING GROUND

We informed your office on March 30, 1960, that at Meeting 1602
earlier in the day, the Commission:
Approved the use of Enivetok Proving Ground as a target area for
& proposed SAC exercise only if the following conditions are met:
(a) AEC contractor personnel must be evacuatedby the
Air Force or provided adequate shelter as protection
against low altitude burst;
(b) The DOD must assume full responsibility for possible
damage to AEC facilities at Eniwetok;
(c) The proposed exercise ie announ:ed by the DOD as an
Air Force Project not involving the AEC,
2. The General Manager has directed you to carry out the above
decision. Copies of pertinent correspondence should be provided the Office
of the Secretary.
