of scatter in starting times. This timer should be a
single unit for the entire fist~lation rather than the
individual timer utilized in t)perationSandstone. Both
the cost and the ~power
req~~d
can be materitiy
reduced under this proposal..
(6) Abetter systemof switching standby generators
should be provided, fith initi~ power supply coming
from batteries and generators being used for recharge
purposes.
(7) A means of superimposinga positive millisecond
time trace on all film should be developed for all types
of cameras, including stills. The time trace, which will
establish the synchronizationbetween various observing
@ations, ah
or ground, will permit comparative graphic
studies between vertical and horizontal observationposts
with time of graphs accurately shown. All cameras should
be operated fully automatic, except for initial sighting.
(8) It is reccizmendedthat if Atcmic tests are to be
conducted over a prolonged period of time, that a complete
laboratory be installed in the~rward area for the entire
processing of the photography of the test. It should be
remembered that this was not done during Project Sandstone
in the interest ofecono~,
both in initial.outlay and in
the supporting services required for large number of additional people.
