BIOGRAPHY Ruth G. Van Cleve Mrs. Ruth G. Van Cleve is the Director of the Office of Territorial Affairs, Department of the Interior. Prior to her appointment in April 1977 to this position, she served with the Federal Power Commission, most recently as Assistant General Counsel. From April 1964 until March 1969 she served as Director of the Office of Territories, Department of -the Interior. Immediately prior to that appointment, she was Assistant Solicitor in charge of the Branch of Territories in the Office of the Solicitor, Department of the Interior. She entered the Department on December 18, 1950, and from that date until April 1964 she devoted her efforts almost exclusively to the legal problems arising in the administration by the Department of theterritorles of the United States and the Trust Territory of the Pacific islands. Born on July 28, 1925, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mrs. Van Cleve attended the University of Minnesota, received phe serves as a Trustee of Mount Holyoke College. Her book, The Office of Territorial Affairs, was published by Praeger in 1974, Mrs. Van Cleve was a recipient of the Federal Woman's Award in 19656, the Interior Department's Distinguished Service Award in 1968, and the Federal Power Commission Merritorious Service Award in 1975. With her husband, Harry R. Van Cleve, Jr., a member of the Renegotiation Board, Mrs. Van Cleve lives in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was awarded an LL.D. by Mount Holyoke College in 1976. During the academic year 1946-47, Mrs. Van Cleve was in Washington as an Intern in the National Institute of Public Affairs.
