The hesith ond safety of the Bikini »ecople was given

the highest pricrity in coneicering the question of whether the atoll
was now rency for resettlement. The decicicn to return the atoli to
the Bikini people wos made only after « careful eviluation of leve:s
of radionctivity thst are sresent there. These levels were measured

throughout a wice raage of sumples including dtetory items collected
in 1964 and again in 1G67T. Also imeluded in the 1967 data are an

extensive collection cf extern:!l raciation measirements taken throughout the utoii.

qualified to mske « judgment on the health and safety agpects of resettlement of the stol!.
