STATUS REPORT NO. 8 PNENETOK RADTOLOS ICAL SURVEY JANUARY 27 - FEBRUARY 2, 1973 The biota collection portion of the survey has been completed and the four men associated with it have left the atoll. - the soil survey remains on, or slightly ahead of schedule. Barring an untoward occurence, such as a major equipment failure, the entire survey will be completed so that all remaining personnel can leave the atoll on schedule, February 21, 1973. The weather has been fair and dry this past week. As can be seen from the attached listing, the only work remaining is completing the surveys £ Yvonne (Runit}) and Walt. The south end of Yvonne, the lesser contaminated nortion, was cempleted on January 29. Detailed planning for the soil ampling survey of the north end is now underway. Arrangements are being made to obtain additional alpha instruments, anti-contamination clothing, and containers for the samples. Facilities for personnel decontamination and suit control are to be designated. Only a minimum nunder of experienced people will be emwmloved in the survey. Before actual operations, dust control, backhoe, nit sampling, soil packaging and decontamination techniques will be developed and practiced.
