CHAPTER PROGRAM ] -— BLAST 2ND SHGCK T2ASUR MEUTS Title: Blast Pressures by Rocket Trail Fhotography Performing Acency: Naval Crdnance Laboratory Froject Officer: 2.1.1 Ie. C. J. Aronson Objective To obtain peak air ooverpressure as a function of distance by means of rocket trail photography. Because all shots will be on the surface, true free air pressures can not be obtained. 2.1.2 Procedure ~ The procedure is essentialfy) the same as that used during IVY. A series of rocket smoke trails in-#fantype grid will be established a few thousand feet from ground zero approximately @ sec. prior to zero time. A camera nlaced in such a fosition as to photograph the rocket smoke trails through the expanding shock wave will obtain 2 photographic record of the propagation of thé-blast wave related to time. The velocity of the shock wave in air may be calculated and the peak overpressures may be deduced from the velocity of the shock wave. aad 2.1.3 Remarks ry ri Project l.la will participate in Shots Braiv, Union, Koon and “cho using rocket smoke trails. Fhotographs without the~smoke trail background will be obtained for Shots Mectar, Yankec andRomeo. 2.2 Project Number: Sponsor: 1.1b Title: AFSWP Project Officer: Blast Phenitigha by Surface Photograohy ormingAgency: Mr. C.
